There were shenanigans like this in 2000 in Florida as well. There were a number of cases, some that were eventually brought to court, where the secretary of state purged too many people from the voter list. Her job was to go through and removed convicted felons from the lists since they weren't allowed to vote. In many cases she actually removed the felon and all of their family members "accidentally."
