Benzedrine Inhalers
in the 60's you could buy OTC Benzedrine Inhalers. They looked like a lipstick tube. You stuck it up one nostril while using a finger to close the other. Benzedrine, aka bennies, is a form of amphetamine.
Quite addictive, my step-father's brother, when we went to visit used one every few minutes, all the time he was awake.
Don't know if the guy who told me was telling the truth. Said after they outlawed it, you could still buy it as "chicken powder," as it boosted egg production in chickens.
