They could have filed a lawsuit without all the press hoopla, so they are only drawing more attention to their situation. How can that be helpful to them? Except to force the sperm bank into a larger cash settlement? Although I read they were looking for minimum $50K which doesn't seem like much unless that was just the minimum necessary to file a civil suit in that court.
