IMO
[Rec] (2007) is the best horror film ever made, it has to be watched alone in the dark with a quality surround sound system. The sound was outstanding in that film!
[Rec]² (2009) is also outstanding!
Shutter (2004) is a very creep Thai horror film, it's excellent!
As mentioned The Descent & The Conjuring are excellent! James Wan has directed a lot of quality horror films in the past decade.
