Do you walk around with a gun, dog or bear spray? When I do camping in Northern MN I carry a Glock 30. Not that I think 45acp is enough to kill a bear but the sound should scare the hell out of it.
Mountain Lions have also become a concern in more recent years. The problem with them is by the time you see them they are already chewing on your neck.
I've had 2 run ins with bears, fortunately they have been mid summer and both just ran away. I would hate to come across them in the spring with their cubs or in the fall when in full-on munchies mode.
