Traffic tip for new webmaster

Hey guys, I am a new kid on the block. So I guess I am gonna make some contribution to the community. Veteran might already know this.. so this thread is for new webmasters.

Traffic is the problem for all new website. While content is King and the most important is factor is "time". When I just started as a new webmaster, I get so excited that I check my google analytics every 30 mins just to see 0 visitors.

I also spent $1000+ to buy traffic, backlinks etc well, its kinda worth, I did get traffic every time I pay.. but when my traffic credit finishes my analytic stats goes back to pathetic mode.
Here are a list of things you need done before you dream about traffic or making truckloads of cash.

- Content is King. Make sure you have enough unique and quality content. The best way to get consistent traffic is to create something interesting enough to make people come back for more. Let's put it this way, you get 1000 unique visitors "Today" and your site content needs to at least convince 15% of your visitors to bookmark your site. So its like 1000 daily UV + 15% total returning UV. If returning rate is under 5%, your traffic will probably get stuck and not go up.

- SEO. For the latest Google update. You don't really need to pay a master to SEO your website. Infact, over SEO is bad. You gotta be creative with your keywords and content. In fact, too many/low quality back links bring harm than benefit. Always do it the white hat way.. there are many smart people implementing black hat stuff and manage to get some traffic but the next Google update will weed and probably blacklist you in the background. Trying to outsmart Google is never wise.

- Patience. You need PLENTY of patience. We know life is short but internet traffic is something which cannot be rush into. Buying traffic will not help you forever, its like you need to learn how to farm and not paying someone to farm for you while you, the owner does not know how to farm.

- Time. Once your website has a decent amount of unique content, submit to SE blah blah and you need to wait. It takes time for your website to make friend with Google. Trust me one this, Google HATES "One Night Stand". It would require 6 months to gain Google trust and during this period, do not idle. You need to continue to update at least 1 article or post daily. Once Google recognize your website as a friend, traffic will follow. Google has a very complex algorithm which occasionally give traffic to new website that has unique and matching contents.

Also, remember "Webmaster Tools" is your friend, check for errors etc.

That is just about it. You do not need to be a computer scientist to gain traffic for your website. After you have done all the above, the next thing you need to do is to earn and not spend money on traffic. Go out and work for 6 months and invest on good sources that provide you quality back links only after Google recognize your website as a friend.

So after 12 months, consistent 1000 - 2000 daily unique visitors shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you have enough quality unique content. Remember everything takes time and patience. Yes, I know 1000-2000 is considered peanut for adult website. Its just an estimation. If your content or videos is good, you get 10x or even 100x more traffic via word of mouth.

I have only scratch the surface. You will discover new tricks as and when you gain more experience.
