There were Irish slaves in America (colonial England), but not in the time of USA, as far as I know.
Also, I don't think it being relevant that some slaves were bought from their own people. Some African kings did sell their subjects, but mostly slaves were kidnapped from other African countries/ tribes. You know, like Greece folk kidnapping slaves from Sparta or something like that. Blacks don't consider each other as "own people" the more than white folks. USA might form some sort exception, but if you think Africa. I don't know did mean that, but I have seen people referring other blacks being "own people".
American white folks did practice slavery on large scale. Can't you just say that without some "but"? You didn't practice it, so what's the problem? Unless you are member of KKK or something like that.
