I couldn't agree more. He was great. A real actor that takes chances. Unlike Brad Pitt who squeezed by in a shallow safe role, not wanting to offend his adopted children and Angie no doubt. But the minute Dano's role got interesting, he was no where to be seen in the film. I guess they didn't want his role to outshine the lead. They didn't resolve that angry situation in the film after the attempted hanging, which pissed me off. The moment a little plot would develop, they would kill it off. I just can't figure out why.
I think they hinted at the end of the film when before the credits rolled it read "his body was never found" That might be implying that those 2 slavers murdered and got rid of his body. But just speculation. I thought a movie about life story would fill in the details, because it is a true life story. Bad screen play writing.
I'm still blown away with the Best Pic and Best screen play adaptation. Blown away. Of course it didn't get best director, because I guess the guilt didn't reach that deep.
I can easily see this film as a simple HBO movie, released on cable, not in theaters. Brad Pitt is one powerful mo fo, and it took more than just money to get this film into national release. Big big Hollywood connections.
