I gave BJJ a shot for a couple of years, but I've never been fond of the ground(staying there, anyways). In wrestling, I always used throws, and that led me to Judo.. the intensity of Krav is just awesome period.

Cant get a legit Brown Belt without paying a low level, no name Black Belt for it.
Here is a little onsite on how you get a Black belt: I was a blue for 5 years. I did win a Pan Am title at blue. (Was held back for competition sakes).
As far as submitting the teacher for a belt, thats not true. If that were the case, there would be almost no American Black Belts.
To get the next belt its a lot of time and or beating top competition at your belt in a major tournament. Example: BJ Penn won the worlds at Brn Belt and came to compete at Brn Belt again the following year; was told he can only compete at Black, because he beat the very best in the world already at Brn.
BJ that year won the Black belt devision.
Anyone who says they got a Black Belt in less than 10 years is being less than truthful. The rare exception is when a person wins Pan American or Worlds at purple, Brn and is forced to get their black. Thats what BJ did.
Now as far as being 60+ and being a legit Black belt, that is way possible. Also keep in mind if you are a legit Black belt, nobody except other blacks tap you. Exception; World class Brn belts winning at the higher levels of competition will tap a non-competitive black.
My buddy Todd Nathanson is 62 and has been a Black belt for 10 years. I was the "Man" to beat when we were younger. (I trained longer than he did, and was 210). But now, he is 160 and can crush me. Why? Because he has a school and still trains 7 days a week. I can't beat him and he is kind on how he beats me.
He also has 2 sons that are bad ass Black belts. That can also beat me. Why? Be cause the train and teach 7 days a week.
So to get your black in BJJ, you have to put your time in and when you do get it, it will be legit, because if your getting tapped out by lessor belts, its an embarrassment to the instructor that gave it to you.
My long time buddy and training partner Todd:
His sons Ben and Jarod:
Some of the very best training in Chatsworth and the valley:

And I still go to Beverly Hills to train with my instructor Rigan Machado regularly.
Ohhh and if I had to submit Rigan Machado to get my Black belt, I would still be waring a Brn for the last 12 years. lol
No disrespect to your buddy or you and by no means am I a tuff guy or bad ass, but Brn in 5? If thats true, I got Purples that will catch him and make him look like a Blue.
