Yeah they're pretty serious about it. If you've been convicted of a crime that translates to a crime in Canada, you are inadmissible to Canada. 5 years (I think) later you can apply for a visa to come to Canada. Note this is not 5 years after the crime, but 5 years after you've finished serving jail/probation or whatever. You'd need to have a pretty good reason to come to Canada at that point, and coming to bounty hunt won't cut it.
Dog served 18 months of a 5 year sentence for 1st Degree Murder. He was waiting in the car while he buddy shot someone during a drug deal or something like that.
