He has a history of chemical dependence problems and depression, reports are he has been severely depressed recently so pretty safe assumption it was suicide.
What will be interesting to find out about is if he was 'severely depressed' did family, friends, doctors attempt to intervene and/or have him committed to hospital.
He may have made the right decision for himself, I believe people have the right to end their lives, maybe he saw nothing but misery ahead. Depression isn't anywhere near as treatable as the drug companies and psychiatrists like to claim - study after study shows anti-depressant meds to barely be more effective than placebo and psychotherapy even less successful. Depression as a neurobiological disease is poorly understood by science and still unknown how much early childhood and everything we go through in life contributes to the disease.
