I'm not reading anything about the rebels losing badly.

as long as they hold donestky, they are very much serious adversary. There is no chance in hell Ukraine can take back that city without rivers of blood and that's one of the bigger cities in the country, and I believe the biggest foothold the rebels continue to maintain.
