Depends, USA has been formed around the similar immigrants from Northwestern Europe. They have kept the power by enslawing, conquering and through discrimination, and with the fruits from these actions. USA folks have never been uniform group, but those who keep the power have been. You have some minor identifying factors like that eagle, waving flag and such. Not much though. But maybe the most important unifying factor is the ideology, idea from USA, what it is and what it should be. You can try to build around that and you should, as the power is slipping more and more from the Northwestern European immigrants descendents.
