Most of the weapons in the 1948 War of Independence were imported from Czechoslovakia and bought illicitly, or surreptitiously, in Western Europe. The Americans refused to sell the Israelis weapons and munitions.

I am sure the Russians, Indians and Chinese would be glad to share Israel's weapons technology and pay to licence their production. This payment would include raw material for weapons production in Israel ... Still think a US weapons embargo is a good idea?
