Police said an innocent man was wounded in gang-related gunfire Monday afternoon in southeast Fresno.
Police initially received two calls reporting shots fired about 4:45 p.m.
The first was at Butler Avenue and 5th Street. Witnesses reported seeing a person in a blue Chevrolet Silverado firing rounds. The second call came from Woodward and Hazelwood avenues. Police found several shell casings in each location, though the shell casings were different, Sgt. Mike Smith said.
Minutes later, police received another call regarding a man who was hit by a stray round. Police found the man, who is in his mid-30s, in a fenced yard near Hazelwood and California avenues. He had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower leg and was taken to a hospital by ambulance to be treated for the injury, Smith said.
Smith said neighbors weren't saying much about the shootings, but one witness said he saw a man wearing red running from one of the scenes. That's what gave away the gang activity, Smith said.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at (559) 621-7000.
