Father Free After 15 Years In Jail, Daughter Admits Lying About Rape, Did It Because She Was Disappointed In Him

LONGVIEW, WA ? The father of a 23-year-old woman is free, after spending a decade in jail after he was accused of raping her. The girl, Cassandra Kennedy, admitted to police that she lied about the rape because at the time she was ?disappointed? in him. The girl will not be charged with anything because prosecutors fear it could stop others from reporting sexual assaults.
Cassandra claimed that she lied about her father raping her in part because of her parent?s divorce. She was bitter and wanted to punish him, saying, ?I wanted him to love me, and I didn?t think he did at that time,? she told police. ?I took my own vengeance,? she said.
Cassandra admitted that she got the idea of setting him up from a friend whose stepfather was sent to prison for a sex crime. ?I thought that is what I would do to make my dad go away,? she said.
Cassandra reportedly became sexually active while she was in the second grade and used her knowledge of sex to describe to police the lies about her father. She reportedly had physical trauma to her sex organs at the time consistent with rape, but what may actually have been from consensual liaisons.
A jury convicted the father of three counts of rape of a child and he served 15 years in jail. ?I just want him to be out and freed,? Cassandra said. [Then] ?I will be free on the inside.
A few months before accusing her father of rape she had been expelled from school for threatening to bring a gun and shoot everyone. After her father?s conviction, Cassandra began experimenting with drugs and alcohol. In 2010 she was using meth and was convicted of felonies for burglary.
