We picked up this washer / dryer pair about a year ago and its pretty cool how they work. Each has tons of settings but the coolest is the washer. You load it up like normal and press start. It tumbles around for a few seconds then stops. Then water runs for only about 5 seconds or so, then stops. Then it tumbles around a bit, stops again, then starts the actual wash cycle. SUPER QUIET - you hardly here a thing. After a few minutes it spits a bit more water in and keeps going. According to the manual, it senses how dirty your clothes are and uses just enough water to clean your clothes, which seems to be hardly any water at all.
The dryer is louder but works in the same way. It senses how wet your clothes are and runs until your clothes are dry, regardless of the time you set it for. You have features like time-based dry if you want it, and steam option to take the wrinkles out of clothes. It works well for the most part but I have at least 1 favourite shirt which it just can't de-wrinkle.

We bought a set like that a few years back. First pair of front loaders we've owned. More lights on the front panels than a frickin' disco.
We got the salesman to throw in a free set of pedestal bases, too.
