Sure but these are very different crimes. According to the statistics 70% of murders (don't even mention the war zone regions like Dagestan, Ingushetia etc) in my country are commuted by drunk unemployed bums in their shacks with a kitchen knives. What does it mean for a regular people? This means that if you are walking by the street say in Moscow, you won't be killed in a gang fight. Your children won't be shot down in the school etc. Just compare the murder/rape rate with the "lowest-ever" one in NYC for the last year and you will be very surprised.
I don't feel for those useless drunk-head redneck that that kill each other with a knife in their own houses, because they have almost not danger for me and my family. On the other hand, it would be a real different story if they had guns or assault rifles. This is what I'm talking about.
The same applies to the cops. BTW. They are not that scared and brutal than in in the States just because they don't expect that everyone has a gun. So love police brutality and almost zero people shot by police here.
You still can say it has nothing to do with the gun regulation, but you would be wrong.
