The Sumerians in what is now Iraq were the first true civilization.
Here is a recent quote about them:
Sumerologist Samuel Noah Kramer asserts "No people has contributed more to the culture of mankind than the Sumerians" and yet it is only comparatively recently that we have built up a knowledge of the existence of this ancient culture.
They were THE most advanced civilization of their time.
I would also point out that a couple of thousand years later a group known as EGYPTIANS were the greatest civilization on Earth.
So no...make that HELL NO...they haven't been at their "height" with Islam.
