The whole film was about a breakup of a relationship and the reason why relationships between two people fail. One partner outgrows the other and they no longer want the same things.
There was nothing pseudo intellectual about it, it was a simple concept that was beautifully written and executed. Hence the rating of 8.1/10 on IMDB and it's rightful place in the top 250 films list.

The analogy or message in the movie is painfully clear. It's just not well executed. I enjoy movies about Singularity also, this is just not a good one. There's nothing interesting or original about it. Personally I hate to classify films as boring because there are plenty of slow moving movies that are excellent. As for the ratings, they mean nothing. I would say half the films in that top 250 have no business being there.
