I think the pieces of the puzzle you are missing are: HEAVY cigarette smoker (aging her facial skin) and an addictive personality (gets her "hooked" on damn near anything she touches).

Very true. Smoking can age you quickky. So can drinking if you do it heavily and nearly every day. Growing up my neighbor's dad was a heavy drinker. I had always assumed his dad was about 15 years or more older than his mom (who was in her late 30's at the time), but it turns out they were the same age. The difference is that he drank half a fifth of Jack Daniels every day.
I saw something today that was kind of interesting. It was a story about how things are working out well for Colorado since legalizing weed. They had a graph that showed the percentage of the population that was addicted to some illegal drug compared to how much the government spent fighting the war on drugs. In the 70's before war on drugs started it was around 2% of the population. Now, trillions of dollars later, it is still around 2% and has not gone up or down at all during all these years. Some people just have that addictive personality are just going to be addicts and the only person that can really fix that is them.
