The films "Monsters" was made for a smaller budget than you on your film.

The whole of Italian neo realist cinema was made with non professional actors.

If you still don't understand my points about lenses and resolution, when you next hire lenses for your film ask to see their test room. The will show you a lens projector which checks how the lens resolves.

Use a lens test projector Most camera rental houses have a lens test projector with which to test lenses for focus, sharpness and contrast across the entire lens. Take a detailed, finely printed chart and project it through the lens. This is a good way to see pure lens performance without any other variables involved.

You do have all you lenses collimated and matched before you start shooting don't you?

Don't blame budget, don't blame actors, don't blame the critic....

You have access to funds it bit more of an open mind and willingness to learn and you could make a film that would break out of the ghetto you are in.
