For me growing up... Soccer was something kids did. And when I say "kids" I mean 3rd graders. By 4th grade we were involved in "real" sports meaning Baseball, Football, and Basketball.
I'm not saying it's not a real sport, but instead when I grew up it was like playing kickball. We did it for fun, but we didn't have a league for it or anything.
