I agree with you, thus the science is settled example. Making shit political never helps anything, except politicians and the media.
Of course we should all want to have a pleasant environment. While a lot if people don't give a shit at all about that just because they don't, many people don't pollute less simply because they fall on the other side of the politics of it and that disallows them.
It would be the same if the debate of pollution was spun into a religious debate. God says you will burn in hell if you pollute and rest assured quite a few people will intentionally pollute.
