I just know he died of a heroin overdose in 1996. I'm pretty sure the only other heroin OD of a musician in 1996 was the guy from the Smashing Pumpkins. I was pretty sure you'd have heard of the Smashing Pumpkins, so my guess was the logical one.
Brad Nowell's family donated his beach cruiser to the Hard Rock at the time I was handling memorabilia acquisitions. So that's the reason this one sticks in my head.
