We have a Rottie puppy that's only 7 months. Sweetest dog I've ever had. Great with everyone, especially kids. And good with other dogs & animals.
But we are socializing the dog every chance we get. Since we got him he's been going everywhere with me & my wife. He's already about 70lbs probably on the way to 120 (his parents were both 120lbs+) I can see the reaction he gets from strangers in public though. One guy literally walked away from his baby stroller with his daughter in it when Moose got too close.
It's all in the training. It's a shame dogs like Pits, Rotties & Shepards get the reputation that they do but I get it. They are powerful dogs and in the wrong hands they can easily kill. The gun analogy is spot on.
