I was listening to the news on my way down and McCain was interviewed. He said something to the effect of "We don't send troops into harm's way to rescue POWs". McCain was a POW in Vietnam, and he knows damn well we sent troops in to rescue handfuls of POWs. I just read a book called D-Days of the Pacific that detailed how they sent in troops deep into enemy territory ahead of the main force to rescue POWs.
I lost all respect for McCain. When he was Governor of Arizona he was great. He went to Vietnam, called them gooks, and had no fucking regrets. He was getting nailed hard in the press but he stuck to his guns saying "Politically correct is one thing, but the gooks locked up me and tortured me for five years".
What a horrible and evil thing for a former US Navy pilot and POW to say. Sure thing, we'll just shrug our shoulders and look the other way from now on.
