If indeed Bergdahl deserted, what caused that change in him? It is possible, that like many of his fellow soldiers, his combat experiences caused him to suffer a mental breakdown, and instead of committing suicide, he followed a different course?

And this is sad and disappointing. Clearly this person was not cut out for life in the military.
When he says "In the Army they cut you down for being honest". The term I use to describe such people are "failure to adapt" (which seems to be a common military term). Most likely he disagreed with why were are in Afghanistan, and that's his right. But what he sees as the truth isn't what the vast majority of people see as the truth.
He just wasn't cut to be in the military, just like that guy that gave all of that info to wikileaks.
