There are so many dashcams here because there's a lot of people who will deny their guilt in a crash and in many cases you can do nothing as it will be your word vs his word. Another reason is to catch plates of those fags who do hit and run. And yet another is to have an objective picture of what's happened - sometimes details are the king. Insurance fraud is not that widespread as many think, but in case when a car overtakes you and suddenly stops only dashcam could show your was set up as by default rear car is perpetrator of the accident.
Police corruption has nothing, or almost nothing to do with cams as it is in your own interest to pay the bribe - official fine would be 2 times more. That's why govt recently started to install cams in police cars - to check what they do.
The more expensive the car the less chances it will have an dashcam. It's B and C classes who have dashcams the most. I for one don't have it.
