Massive population is always a
negative factor for economics. If Russian population was comparable with say Canadian one, the GDP per capita would be much higher. The one must not be a rocket scientist to understand it.
As about Czech Republic. Yes, right now its GDP per capita = 18,690 which is higher than in Russia, but it's seriously down, so just wait for a few years and compare again
