It's not the best, but considering the weight of the van (4,500lbs) and the fact it has a auto trans, it's not the worst. I'm probably getting about 15 to 17mpg. I don't know for sure because VW vans being VW vans, the speedo broke the first day of my trip and has been broken since..
I will say my other van which is the 4x4 syncro version is getting a motor swap. I'm putting a 2.5 GM ecotec engine in it out of a Pontiac Sky. I actually met a guy in Austin that has the same motor in his van with a automatic and he averages 28mpg.
Meaning once I go back to FL, to finish up the Syncro project that will be the ultimate road trip van.
