It happens more often than you think - although your right that particular incident made national news it is very rare for that to happen. The local newspapers & TV usually reports it though.
Birmingham I believe has more gun crime now than London - though not always drive-bys. Just last month there someone was shot dead in a barbers chair.
"Last year the number of firearm-related incidents in the West Midlands increased by almost 50% from 1,512 in 2000-01 to 2,262" - from Sky News. ( I think most of them would of been in Birmingham - Handsworth and surrounding areas)
Thats a lot of gunplay for such a small place
