I think the highlighted thread is a good idea, but implemented a bit differently, I'm thinking if we had a "highlight this thread" button right beside the "new thread" and "post reply" buttons, this way if there is a hot thread going on and lets say 10 members click on the "highlight this thread" it gets highlighted which gives us a heads up that this thread is a good read
