Was it over the top at times? Sure. I can't say I disliked the movie because of Affleck or Beckinsale, they did fine as far as I was concerned in the movie. I could have used a lot less love story, but for me personally, that could go for almost any good movie.
A good example of this would be 'Heat'. You could have cut that movie from 4 hours down to 2.5 without that Paccino/DeNire love story nonsense. However, there are plenty of movies like that with the love story crap taking away from a good flick.

I don't really know much about that event so I have no idea how accurate it is... but then again maybe I don't care... I don't think it's trying to make a point one way or another, instead it just tells a tale.
I liked Heat - it was a little long but still good. I found it sort of Tarantino-esq, not sure why.
