I did not mind it, beyond the normal historical inaccuracies that many people assume are true. That, to me personally, is the most annoying when people cite a movie and things from it as historically accurate and never bother to do additional research on the subject. But I digress....
Was it over the top at times? Sure. I can't say I disliked the movie because of Affleck or Beckinsale, they did fine as far as I was concerned in the movie. I could have used a lot less love story, but for me personally, that could go for almost any good movie.
A good example of this would be 'Heat'. You could have cut that movie from 4 hours down to 2.5 without that Paccino/DeNire love story nonsense. However, there are plenty of movies like that with the love story crap taking away from a good flick.
