$/click is not taking 'their side' dumbass, it is taking the side of any professional affiliate, and any sponsor that actually pays real money for real clicks at a high value. How you can think that is bad advice in any way is simply bizarre.
Now on the other hand, if they didn't pay on trials but you were earning forty cents per click because they converted trials at a high rate and retained really well, I wouldn't care about the trials at all. I'd care about the forty cents per click. In this instance, assuming Lucas' numbers are accurate (I would do my own testing if I planned to promote a sponsor) the payout appears to be 0.00, that would be enough reason for me to not promote them even if they were accurately paying 0.00 while counting trials.
The math matters, the reason 'why' they pay 0.00 is a distraction for asshats in almost every case.
