It's really no different than when a family pet dies. Do you dispose of the corpse in a respectful way, or do you just throw the body out in the backyard and let mice and crows pick at it? It's about being respectful to the memory of the person or animal. I'm pretty sure your dog never attended church or prayed to lord jesus, but most people arent going to throw the body out in a bag full of dirty diapers.
