ADG you're just reading sensationalized stuff.
What has taken a "toll" on pro wrestlers is the same thing that has happened to so many other people: Prescription pills.
THAT is the real disaster that is happening to millions of people and especially pro athletes.
They get hooked on pain pills, then sleeping pills, and then anti-depressants.
It's not as "sexy" as dying from steroid abuse...but it is the biggest problem out there. Both in the sports world and amongst "normal" people.
The Warrior was jacked beyond belief back in the 1980's and early 1990's. He was taking pro bodybuilder amounts of steroids.
Problem is...pro bodybuilders cycle off for most of the year and only get crazy as they prepare for the big shows.
Pro wrestlers on the other hand are year round. He never cycled off. So the damage that was probably done to his heart was probably what killed him.
Very doubtful that any kid watching wrestling would ever be able to even find (much less buy) the quality and quantity of steroids that Warrior did for all those years.
The WWE also has a "wellness program" that they test the wrestlers now and suspend them if they find anything in their blood.
That seems to only apply to certain wrestlers though. Vince McMahon himself is in his late 60's and is still obviously taking a lot of steroids...though he SHOULD at least be taking testosterone.
Also your comment about "supposed athleticism" is spoken like a true non-athlete.
You could start shooting steroids at the level of the Ultimate Warrior in the 1980's right now...and you STILL would look exactly like you do now.
The steroids are only part of the equation.
Or as a doctor once told me: "What you put in your mouth to eat is more important than all the steroids combined".
Now if you got on the right disciplined diet, hit the gym like a beast (I'm talking beyond anything you can even picture in your head), AND increase your levels of testosterone via steroids to allow your muscles to reach optimum growth?
THEN you could get ripped and jacked.
Trust me...the Ultimate Warrior didn't just take steroids and kick back on the sofa. He worked harder in the gym than anyone you or I know to achieve that kind of physique.
If it were as easy as just shooting steroids...then everyone would have had those kind of bodies.
