Assuming you even get the customers correct email. I frequently get joins with emails like "[email protected]" so the chatter is trying to intercept the welcome email, both to downplay the amount the customer is spending and also to take control of the users account so they can either use it themselves, or simulate site usage to pass their joins off as productive, or else to interact with other site users (in the case of dating) so they can steal your members and sell them to someone else.

What I do is add the chatter on Yahoo, act like a potential customer then when they think they got a sale identify myself as the program owner and tell them either that they are fired or to knock that shit off or they will be soon.
