they don't do that shit to save people, they do that shit to squeeze maximum revenue, under the guise of 'helping people'. If the whole country gave up smoking today, the UK would be even more of a shambles than it is now thanks to all the lost revenue in both direct taxes on the cigs themselves, taxes on the tobacco industry & workforce, and the knock-on spending/wealth redistribution that workers at every level of the tobacco industry partake in.
Tobacco is a gigantic industry that the government are very much a part of.
