Either way, this wouldn't effect the natural gas pipelines in Ukraine (they don't go through Crimea), and either way both Russia and Ukraine would still have ocean access. Russia doesn't need a Naval base in Crimea - Russia already has coastline on the black sea without Crimea.

US and EU had interests there...
They should allow to Serbians in Bosnia or Russians in Ukraine etc etc
