Insurance covering PrEP ( Truvada ) is a great thing! There are unfortunately some challenges in actually getting it prescribed due to concerns over efficacy.

1. Apparently, it did not do well in clinical trials with women. There is speculation that the vaginal environment is not ideal for this medication to work. Despite the challenges in clinical trials, the drug was still approved: Gilead Must Halt FDA Approval of Truvada as Women?s PrEP Study Fails


2. Because of these challenges within the clinical trials, doctors are not prescribing the medication as one might expect.

2000 doesn't seem like a large number of prescriptions to me


I truly hope that the science continues to advance ... quickly and we develop not only a vaccine but a cure.
