If the events of the movie are based more than slightly on an actual murder case then the victim's family should have been contacted, then again maybe they were and part of the agreement was that the studio not mention the actual murder case. Personally I dont know if I would want a relative or a friend's murder publicized by a feature movie, but it may be an important story to tell in which case if some anonymity was garaunteed then maybe it would make me more open to the idea.
I mean if the movie was good it was good, the issue of family compensation is separate and although it should certainly be dealt with it really doesnt detract from the value of the film.
