"Spike" is a tough name, a man's name. Spikes are steel, driven through things to hold them together. Or used to puncture and rip. Besides the dozens of regular uses for the word, there have been tons of dogs, cats and humans to share that name. Spike Milligan, Spike Jonze, etc.
