WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (RNN) - A shooting took place at Purdue University's electrical engineering building Tuesday, according to the school's
Police have a suspect in custody. University representatives tweeted authorities had cleared the building and were searching the area.
Students were asked to shelter in place. Multiple emergency vehicles remained parked outside the building.
The land-grant university was founded May 6, 1869, with money from John Purdue. The school focuses on science and engineering.
It has an enrollment of nearly 40,000.
