I'd say it's a good thing - these series have some sort of life expectancy and are in too many cases artificially kept alive.

It's better to see a show ending maintaining a decent level of entertainment than turning into something that's not a pleasure anymore for just about anybody involved, including the viewers.

Same thing happened to Dexter, while I believe the first four or five series were very entertaining, had some memorable characters and a narrator's view on the "regular" world seen by somebody irregular, the last three were just more gloomy, violent and suffered from serious plot holes, coming to an end with a major fiasco.

As for How I met your mother - I've been more or less forced to see a couple episodes since it's something that's popular with my "peers". Well all I can say I found it very juvenile like, not saying it doesn't have a certain comedy value, but the very thought of someone in my age watching it is rather disturbing.
