I believe at one time it did. Jesus realized early on that it was alot easier to carry his travelling roadshow from town to town where hundreds of people would provide him (and his followers) with good food and shelter as long as he put on his show for them, then it was off to the next town where they would perform all over again. Yay!
It sure beats toiling in the fields under the hot sun to make a living back in those days.
If people today can be influenced into following cults and wacky religions, just think how much easier it would have been to mold peoples thinking 2000 years ago? Sheeple a plenty! Wooo hooo!
