I got it at 32ish it was fucking horrible. It's generally worse the older you are when you first get it, I'm just glad I didn't get them on the inside of my eyelids, my throat, my asshole, cock etc like some people get them. I got them everywhere else though.. something like 60 of them on my face and I now have 3 pockmarks where I had pretty flawless skin beforehand. I kicked my wife out when I suspected it (I was away when i got it) and just dosed myself up to the gills with codeine and anti histamines. My father visited right after i'd gone through the fever and freaked out seeing the state I was in and basically took me to the family home to recover. I thought it was a bit strange at the time but now I have a daughter I understand instinct to protect doesn't really go away. Plus it must have been a shock to see how fucked up I was, I was pretty mutant.
Of course it was fully my own fault. I'd had a script for chickenpox vaccine on my desk for something like 6 months after a friend of a friend had it and got it on the inside of their eyelids and their throat. But after I got the script and the immediate thought about how fucked up it was had passed I just left it there. When I randomly got it half a year later I really had only myself to blame, could have had a good chance of avoiding it entirely or at least having a minor outbreak. So annoying.
