I did that exact thing with 1000s of domains and blogs for years.and years So did many people I worked with. The whole thing about class c ips has never, ever been true. That's not to say I haven't spent obscene amounts of money spreading networks across hosts and for ips but that's just because I sometimes thought "why not?" But there was never a clear benefit to me doing so.... and eventuly I stopped.
This is a silly myth that started in about 2003 that originally came from Adwords and their implementation of keyword relevance metrics and lp quality - where those who were there remember well, waking up to see minimum bids on keywords set to 5/10.00 and people were trying to create what appeared to be legit websites instead of single landing pages and hide all the relationship between landing pages to keep them live in Adwords (multiple accounts, targeting same keywords with similar landing pages)
