They got this far without lawyers, they don't need them now.
It is up to him to know what he should do.
If he misses the girl and has love left or interest in seeing if a relationship compromise can be reached somehow he gets a truck and drives it over there for her. Often when one party (normally the woman) walks out the door they deliberately leave something unresolved or to go back for as a hook to re-opening whatever was the issue when the other party doesn't follow the script and chase after them.
If on the other hand, he doesn't care about getting back with her somehow, then he should get a cost estimate for shipping the stuff and either send it or tell her how much it will be depending on whatever he believes is the right thing to do based on everything that he knows that we don't about each party's circumstances and their relationship.
